THE BASEMENT

Concept Design & 3D Environment

The original concept for this design is in an apocalyptic world where a species of anthropomorphic bug (Arthroton) was created by accident in a laboratory, soon growing to an uncontrollable number and inviting major cities, forcing human civilization into decay after multiple destructive wars. Most survivors are in hiding; some are still finding ways to resist; some live day by day while waiting for the world to end sooner or later. All in all, a shared atmosphere of nihilism and epicureanism pervades even the most hopeful resistance groups.

This basement, located in a small alley, is one of the hideouts for such groups. It provides supplies, technical support, and shelter for whoever requires help.

Behind the shabby cement wall, the corpses of the Arthrotons are dissected and studied. The extracted substance of the carcass is used as fuel and energy. Closed-circuit radio and data transmission are open 24/7 for distress calls and information from other basements. Posters made by residents are put on the wall, more or less showing passive and dark humor content such as: "The End of the World," "After Death," "Breaking Earth," and "Doom." However, one piece of a human figure fighting the Arthrotton can still be seen hiding behind the shelf. Even in a tiny amount, hope and an undead spirit are still present under the surface of passiveness.

This 3D artwork is created with Maya and Zbrush.
